Co-Mental Health Ombudsperson

Katie MacDermaid

Hey everyone! My name is Katie (she/her) and I am so excited to be your mental health advocate this year, alongside my great pal Alden. I am entering my third year (3L) of law school and am originally from Bathurst (NB). I completed my undergrad at St. Thomas University (just up the hill!) in Great Books and Communications and Public Policy.

In my spare time, I like playing sports, cuddling my two rescue dogs Maisy and Oslo, and sampling different types of cheesecake.

I have always been heavily involved in mental health advocacy and am very excited to bring my passion for this to UNB Law. I sought this position because I personally understand and am deeply empathetic to the lack of mental health resources in our province and our schools. I want to create a lasting mental health support framework so that students always have resources to rely on, regardless of who steps into this position. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words and that concrete steps need to be taken to address the widespread lack of mental health supports. I am so excited to meet you all and get started!! Please take this as an open invitation to reach out to me about anything at any time.
